Tropical Gardenias and Frangipani flowers mark the beginning of the inevitable slide into summer in South Florida. Spring is fading away, though the pollen isn’t and the weather is fantastic. Of course, being a persnickety gardener, we can’t be happy with what we have and could use a little rain.
The fragrance from this combination would be worthy of a candle. The Tropical Gardenia (Tabernaemontana diviricata) has a much lighter scent than G. jasminoides. Combine that with the sweet yellow and pink Frangipani (Plumeria spp) and add a touch of the herbal tang of White Flame Salvia. I am really enjoying walking into my house and expect the scent to magnify this evening.
The fern in the vase is a Climbing Asparagus Fern (Asparagus africanus). These are invasive in Florida and I pull them when I find them and inevitably find another sooner or later. I enjoy using these in vases and recycling them that way. The plants have thorns so they usually find me.

The Shrub Queen 
Frangipani certainly is YELLOW. Brent grows several with rich color, but (I believe) that the only cultivar that blooms yellow blooms with a pale or pastel yellow. I do not remember seeing such rich yellow in frangipani. Is it a modern cultivar?

I think this is an Aztec Gold Plumeria. They are fairly common around here, though I haven’t seen them anywhere else.

It seems strange to be talking about sliding into summer, as we are just getting into spring proper here in the UK and there will be northern states in the US and Canada that are only just approaching spring, I guess – but that’s what makes this blogging community so interesting, with bloggers from so many different places. I can only imagine the fragrance of your vase today which, curiously, looks more like a spring vase than a summer one, but that’s just the colours I suppose. You have cleverly balanced it with the salvia and asparagus fern – everything works so well together

Nature’s scents are the best. I use to cut some gardenias to use as bathroom freshener. It feels like summer here too. We were lucky with some big windy storms that took care of the pollen.

Yes! I used one ONCE and had to rewash my clothes several times to get the SMELL out. I thought it was me, but I can’t image how anyone would think they smell good or at least the one I used.

The combined scents of the Plumeria and the tropical gardenia must be wonderful, Amelia. I’ve 2 potted Plumerias but I’m lucky if I get even a few blooms – they probably want to be in the ground, and to get more water than I provide. However, like you, I can already detect our slide into summer. We have a small chance of rain this week but, for all practical purposes, our all-too-short rainy season seems to be over already.

Oh yes, that does look summery – light and airy and fragrant. Love the Salvia and that yellow Frangipani flower. How mean of a fern to have thorns. I always think of ferns as being soft and tactile plants.

Absolutely beautiful, the salvia looks most special. Bit confused though because you say spring is fading away. Hasn’t it only started? Well, at least here, long may it last. Happy Easter!
