For reasons that elude me, the miniature pineapples are having a stellar year. I usually get one fruit once in a while and this year I have three and one has pups (the one on the left). I am not exactly sure what to do with a multi pupped miniature pineapple? I guess I will figure it out, suggestions are encouraged.
A friend gave me this pineapple years ago. I think it’s a “Lava Burst” Miniature Pineapple.
Why unplonked? I dropped one on the trip inside from the garden. The pineapple popped off and was eyed suspiciously by Handsome Rob, the Greyhound, who would eat it in a heartbeat. Consequences of that I do not want to contemplate. The leather gloves came out – the baby pineapples are as sharp as they are cute, and the pineapples were secured into a dog proof arrangement. A fruit loving dog? Weird, but true. This dog eats oranges and adores pineapple. More Greyhound weirdness, but we love him.

Note the pups on the left. I added some foliage from the “Lava Burst” Pineapple. The big tropical leaf is from Split Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron selloum). Creamy spikes flowers are Juba Bush (Iresine diffusa)

Such a cool plant to add to arrangements. Will pineapple sicken dogs? Mine only eats grass thankfully!

How cool – little pineapples. I like the Philodendron selloum. Is that a cultivar or just the simple species? We have the simple species at work, as well as ‘Lickety Split’.

It’s straight species. We get Xanadu around here, ugh! and some of the burgundy varieties.

‘Xanadu’ is . . . overrated. It looks good in nurseries, but is sort of boring in landscapes. It is unfortunate that it became so common.

I love those little cuties. My dog from long ago, came trotting out from my vegetable garden with a smile on her face. I went back to check and all the strawberries were missing.

I do, too. Dogs are funny, this one loves fruit – around here dogs eat avocados and mangoes off the ground, seems weird! then there are the strawberries!

The pineapples are so cute! However, I too am glad you rescued them before Rob “collected” them for you as I can’t imagine what they would do to his stomach and the possible need for a vet’s intervention.

Wow, I can’t believe I have spent my entire life not knowing that pineapples grow on stalks! LOL! Love the arrangement, and love Bob. He is very handsome. Our dogs have all loved fruit too… our little Gina used to eat the wild strawberries in the garden.

The bigger pineapples don’t grow on stalks like that, much shorter. Celery and green beans are the only things he won’ eat..so far.

What a modern almost sci-fi looking arrangement, Amelia – I like it! Your miniature pineapples are a real curiosity, and who would have guessed that a dog might enjoy a pineapple!
