Tropical Storm Imelda formed off the east coast of Florida on Sunday, about 175 miles away from my garden. We may get a brush of tropical storm winds on Monday, so we will see how that goes. My vase this Monday is wishing Imelda a speedy exit from my vicinity.
The flowers were cut from near the house as we have been having downpours from the outer bands of the storm off and on. It made me realize how much Rob the Greyhound dislikes rain…Nope, not going out in that. Well, I went out in it and cut flowers!
The Benary Giant Zinnias are fading away as something eats the foliage..oddly, these are the longest stems of the year. White flowers are from Juba Bush (Iresine diffusa) a native wildflower. I think this emphasizes a windy look with the blue wave. Yellow foliage is from Java White Copperleaf. The blue wave is a piece of art glass from Maui, Hawaii.

Yes, I hope Imelda will not affect you much. Your prop is a wonderful companion to the vase, and the flowers are beautiful as always!

Juba bush is related to bloodleaf? Are they the same thing?

Yes they are related but not the same thing. There are a couple of named cultivars of Blood leaf. Juba is a native wildflower.

That’s a wonderful piece of glass! I’m glad that Mother Nature was kind and sent Imelda off in another direction. Your arrangement is great – I love that pale foliage as an accent to the vibrant Zinnias.

Our day started out sunny, but the northern band from Imelda is now over us… that is a 1500 mile storm reach…wow! Fingers crossed she heads out to the mid-Atlantic like all the others have so far.

Fish hurricanes are the best kind. How weird we both got rain from that storm.

The blue wave is a striking prop – have we seen it before? The pale leaf is such an effective contrast to the bright zinnias. I hope your weather settles soon – but will you still be expecting any hurricanes (was Imelda classed as a hurricane or ‘just’ a storm?)?

The wave has never been seen until today though we’ve had it for years. I think you’re interested in weather? Imelda is a tropical storm now and predicted to reach hurricane strength..there is a hurricane named Humberto out in the Atlantic sucking Imelda away from land. The Fujiwara effect I think it’s called.

We have been having the downpours as well. I don’t remember a week like the past one, I got rained on almost every day. Your colorful flowers are a bright spot on a gray day.
