In a Vase on Monday – Summer Bromance

My husband may be wondering about my summer bromance (probably not). July is prime time for a Vase of my favorite summer bromeliad flowers, Aechmea miniata. To say this is a striking flower is a bit of an understatement. The flower is a nearly foot long panicle composed of what looks like red hot cinnamon candies accented with cobalt blue tips, it is a sight to behold. The plant has deep olive leaves with purple backsides and thrives in dry shade. I love it. Definite bromance here.

An overhead view. The foliage accents are trimmed palm fronds from Sabal Palm seedlings (Palmetto sabal). The vase was repurposed from the florist.

Happy Summer Monday to all. To see more vases, follow this link RITG to visit Cathy.

  1. They are striking grouped together. I really like the blue tips. Tropical flowers have some wild colors.

Such an nice bromance, love it! I wonder if you too struggle with the palm moth? They arrived here last week. They’re originally from South America. Hope you and your gorgeous dog are well. Happy summer days!

    • Hi Annette. Thank you. I haven’t heard of a palm moth. There are some bad invasive bugs and reptiles from SA here. My dog refuses to go outside unless it is properly cool. She’s the smart one!

My hunk of burning love and your bromance are made for each other…! 🤣 What an astonishing plant that bromeliad is, and how lovely to see it close up in a vase – thanks for sharing it

Oh, wow! The blue tips really make it stand out too. They look wonderful in a vase with your clever palm creations behind them. 😃

Simple AND dramatic, which is an unusual in itself. I SO envy your bromeliad flowers. No IAVOM contribution from me this week as I was on a garden tour of the PNW and am struggling to catch up.
