Expecting something a liitle less colorful, maybe shades of creamy white? Not this Monday. While searching for flowers this overcast Sunday in South Florida I found colorful marigolds, zinnias and a bit of white in my garden.
The arrangement was inspired by my nephew, who was recently in a wedding in India and sent me some images of the event with flowers.
Here goes:

Pretty fabulous, I think. Garlands of marigolds are popular in India for all sorts of occasions. I like one reason best, the color of the sun is reflected in marigolds, representing brightness and positive energy. I imagine there are thousands of marigolds here.
Here is a link to more on marigolds and India.

A pretty shot of marigold garlands with a bicycle embellished with white and deeper toned flowers, another element of weddings in India.
Close ups of my arrangement, with about 5 marigolds instead of 5,000!

I think the orange flowers are African Marigolds from a cutting flower mix I bought from Sow True seeds in Asheville, North Carolina. The white daisies are our native (weed) Bidens alba; yellow tubular flowers are Esperanza (Tecoma stans).
Another view:

Pink flowers are Cactus Zinnias, grown from seed; the foliage – Asian Sword Ferns and a few bits of Rosemary. The vase, a thrift store find on an old brass trivet, probably from India..
There’s my multi cultural experience this Monday. Thanks to Cathy at http://www.ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com for hosting. Copy the link to see more arrangements.

Perfect post for Valentine’s Day… what is more romantic than a wedding? Can you imagine how pungent those garlands are? I love your bright and happy arrangement, so cheering!

The colors are spectacular together. The zinnias and marigolds look decidedly summery. The wedding decor made a great inspiration. I love the bicycle!

My goodness, the Indian wedding blooms are wonderful – and can you imagine the skill and time required to create the displays?! You have still captured a similar vibe with a reduced number of blooms though – what a great effect 👍

Thanks, I enjoyed the wedding flowers as well. My nephew was tattooed with henna, dressed in a turban and carried the bride in on a chair with the other groomsmen? I would need a field of marigolds to make those garlands.

Your arrangement delivers the cheer you sought on an overcast day. Marigolds deserve more respect than they generally get. That wedding display is fabulous. As much as I was taken with the garlands, I absolutely love the floral-decked bicycle – there’s got to be a story there!

Thanks, Kris. I agree about marigolds and the bicycle. I quizzed my nephew and he had no idea why there was a bicycle. Oddly, someone around here decorates a bicycle seasonally with flowers, I am really curious why?

OH! I should have recognized the Tecoma stans! I thought they were nasturtium. (How embarrassing.) From the title, I was sort of expecting something white, but I should expect something different here anyway.

Your vase is a wonderful bowl of colour Amy. And those Indian wedding garlands are stunning. It must take hours to make them. They make our traditional wedding dresses look rather pale and boring in comparison!
