This is another botanical garden plant sale find, a rooted cutting in a 6″ pot – they said it would grow 6 feet tall (after a year it is 5 feet) looked up the identity based on the flower -20 feet tall. It is covered with hanging buds. It should be spectacular in a couple of weeks.
I have never seen one of these, but after researching it, it would probably be too cold here for it. It is really great to have such pretty blooms in the winter.
Dombeyas were new to me until I bought this last spring. I think it is a Zone 10 plant – I will probably cut a few on Monday for a vase and will post some pictures of the plant. It is very interesting, huge heart shaped leaves and the flowers hang like dangling earrings. Be interested to see how long it flowers.
Actually, I see these in Vero Beach (30 miles north and closer to you temperature wise) they get the occasional frost. These things are very easy to grow, i will save some seed if you want to try it.
Oh fabulous, I grew this from seed years ago but I never got it to flower in the greenhouse.

Some years we can be zone 10 and others not. Galveston might be able to grow them.

So pretty, and different from most of the locally popular flowering shrubs.
