I fully intended to put a tropical mixed vase together..until the predicted tropical rainstorm started and hasn’t let up. I had just cut the Heliconias when the bottom dropped out. This weather is a harbinger of things to come this week. Hurricane Milton is brewing in the Gulf of Mexico and is headed my way or somewhere on the Florida peninsula. The weather pundits are babbling away. I rooted around in my vase stash and came up with a red vase for my downsized vision. Sigh.
A closer view of “Lady Di’ Heliconia (Heliconia psittacorum)

I am thankful for simple pleasures this Monday. Fingers crossed for a safe week for all. Thanks to Cathy for hosting, visit RamblingintheGarden to see more vases.

Perfect vase for these flowers. I do hope you stay safe this week.

None the less, it is a beautiful vase of flowers that most of us can’t grow. I’ve been thinking of you and I hope all goes well. Make lots of ice!

Thanks, the storm looks to be passing a few hundred miles north currently….we have a generator. I have so much food in the freezer there is not room for ice!

I’m happy to hear you should do well. It looked pretty bad on TV this morning and the head forecaster was in tears. I hope people get out while they can.

I was just talking to a friend in Tampa who is staying!! Yikes.

Love these heliconias, and the vase complements beautifully. So hoping that Milton won’t be a nightmare like Helene. FL doesn’t need to be hit with another big storm. 😦

Thanks, Eliza. This is looking pretty nasty. They are evacuating half a million people from Tampa. Yikes.

Love the Heliconias! And the vase is perfect for them. Very graceful. Thinking about you all in the path of this next hurricane. Stay safe.

Splendid! I am determined to get my Heliconia psittacorum to bloom. Both (Fire & Ice and the primary unidentified cultivar) grew well but not well enough to bloom, which is no surprise for their first season of recovery.

Thanks, Tony. Maybe next year.

I got them because Brent wanted them gone and I like the foliage. I do not mind that they have not bloomed yet. I suspect that they will bloom a bit next year, but the flowers will just be an added bonus to the nice foliage, and something to brag about.

I suppose the path of these storms is not always completely predictable – fingers crossed it passes you by but doesn’t hit hard elsewhere either… 🤞 Anyway your Heliconias are absoluetly gorgeous, and your red spherical vase is a real asset…my only red vase has such a narrow neck that it really limits what can go into it

Thanks, Cathy. it seems the forecasts are usually wrong! I had quite forgotten about that vase and was happy to find it.

I do hope this won’t be a horrible one and will not hit you directly… must be awful listening to all the weather forecasters analysing it around the clock. Fingers crossed for you. And the Heliconias are lovely – autumnal colours too. 😉

Thanks, Cathy – after a while it’s analysis paralysis. And they really don’t know anyway.

Our met people of course watch what is happening on your side of the states, and often show this often showing that the weather systems then move across the Atlantic and then come out way. I hope the damage is minimal for you, In the meantime your lovely vase with the red and yellow Heliconias and their very glossy and green foliage brighten your week.

Thanks, Noelle. We will soon see. I do enjoy the Heliconia, hurricanes not so much.

I adore your Heliconia and it suits that vase perfectly. I hope Milton gives you a pass, Amelia – in fact, I hope it wipes out over the ocean and leaves everyone on land alone. My fingers are firmly crossed!
