I am joining the group at Jim’s blog this Saturday, sharing six items of interest from our gardens. Follow the link to join the garden party GardenRuminations
This week has been wonderful weather wise. Clear blue skies, sunny, low humidity and a rain storm that quenched the thirsty plants in the garden. I have been enjoying homegrown produce, admiring fruit coming along in the trees and spying orchid flowers in the Gumbo Limbo tree.
First up, the orchid. This is a Dendrobium superbum. The fragrance was fantastic when it first opened. It has been flowering for about a week. I tied this into my Gumbo Limbo tree last spring.

Second, another mad bromeliad flower. This is from Aechmea ‘burgundy’. They do not flower often, but it is an interesting bloom.

Another bromeliad, the pineapple. I think it doubled in size with the addition of fertilizer and rain.

More fruit in the garden. The Thai dessert mangoes are coming along.

I have been enjoying heirloom Arugula and cherry tomatoes – in everything possible.

The heirloom Pentas (Penta lanceolata) are doing their best to welcome spring.

That is all from South Florida this Saturday. I am waiting for another set of rain showers to move through and hopefully wash some pollen away.
Happy Spring!!

Hi, very clever to have put a dark background behind the very pretty flowers of Aechmea ‘burgundy’. Are heirloom Pentas flowers fragrant?

Thanks, Fred. That is the burgundy foliage. The Pentas are not fragrant, but butterflies love them.

Wow, I don’t know where to start, because they’re all fascinating and beautiful plants you’ve shared here. Fruits and Tomatoes in the garden this time of year–lucky you! I’ve enjoyed your climate and amazing plant selection every time I’ve visited friends and family in that part of the country. That Orchid is stunning!

This is what SoS is about for me, and I’m sorry I don’t pop by to the late (for me) shift more often. Lots of lovely mysteries and then tomatoes that are a joy to us all, except not (for me) for a while. Have a fab week x

I agree. Seeing gardens in a totally different climate is great.

What a bounty of flowers, fruit and veggies. I love your orchard hanging from a tree. It reminds of my visit to South America.

Oh gee, my comment did not go through. What I said is that I needed to look up the ‘Thai Dessert’ mango to confirm that it is distinct from the ‘Honey’ mango, not that I intend to grow it anytime soon. The pineapple is still not an option, although I will try to root a top if I happen to acquire one.

Your weather sounds lovely, the mangoes look great and I love that lilac orchid. Hope you get that rainshower to settle the pollen!
