I put this vase together on Easter Sunday, adding a crystal egg that I inherited from my mother, not quite realizing it would reflect the colors of the flowers when a sunbeam appeared. This egg adds to my surprise of finding a nest of robins eggs on Saturday, making it an Eggcentric weekend.
My vase morphed into a colored layer confection by accident, which is the usual course of events on Sunday. Here is the base layer.
In white, Lotusleaf Begonia (Begonia nelumbifolia), I like to cut these even though they shed a lot, they will produce chartreuse seedheads while in a Vase. Pink flowers are Dianthus “wedon’treallyknow”.
The top layer:
Lighter blue flowers are a hybrid Plumbago auriculata, “Imperial Blue”, I think. Blue spikes are “Mystic Blue” Salvia, these got buggy and experienced a Chelsea chop after the vase was completed. The second chop for the salvia in about six months. I am interested to see how it fares. My go to Asian Ferns complete the vase. The vase is a historic florist vase that has been hanging around the house.

I like the way you described your Monday vases as mostly accidents – that’s certainly what happens here, and things invariably just slot into place. Your eggcentric weekend was certainly serendipitious in several ways – great results all round, Amelia!

The robin’s eggs were a wonderful discovery! But has Mama Robin abandoned her nest, or was she just off temporarily taking care of business? I love the mix of the blue Plumbago and Salvia in your arrangement – and the addition of the crystal egg was a perfect finishing touch.

Mom Robin chastised me for pruning the shrubs, flew off and came back after I saw the nest and stopped, she is dutifully sitting now. Thanks, Kris.

Oh your flowers, crystal egg and robin’s nest are all exquisite Amelia. I was about to ask the same question as Kris 😂 I’m so pleased to hear that the mother to be is reinstated on the nest. Here we have a nest box in sight from our dining room window and we have been watching a blue tit flying in and out over the last few days busy nest building.

What a gorgeous combination, and I love the Easter confection colors. My Salvia farinacea is still filling out and not nearly ready to bloom yet. It’s the latest of my flowering salvias actually, with S greggii and S microphylla types all blooming now. But the temperature swings are enormous right now, so maybe it’s the wisest of the bunch!

“wedon’treallyknow”? Could it be feral, or was it planted intentionally? It is a nice color, and it looks like how ferals are described. Is the glass egg like from Risky Business?
