It is Saturday yet again and a beautiful, sunshiny late spring day in South Florida. The skies are blue and so are the flowers this week. I am joining the Six on Saturday crowd at Jon’s blog; http://www.thepropagatorblog.wordpress.com. Follow the link for more late spring garden views.

Another garden first, the Chinese Forget Me Not (Cynoglossum amiable) flowers! So pleased with these. These reportedly make good cut flowers, though the stems are not very long yet.

The Blue Pea Vine (Clitoria ternata) has started flowering again after a winter hiatus. These vines, after recovering from severe rabbit abuse are supposed to be perennial here, so I am hoping they will cover the fence.

Blue Porterweed (Stachytarpeta jamacaicensis) is starting to flower again.

I have two shades of blue flowering Plumbago (Plumbago auriculata) – a nearly indestructible tropical shrub. Can you tell the difference? The darker blue is the more recent selection, the paler flower is the heirloom version.

Blue Daze Evolvulus can be used as a perennial groundcover here. I am not sure what inspires it to flower. It just does periodically?
There, my six. Wishing everyone a Happy Holiday weekend and sunny blue skies.
You know, I prefer the original plumbago. The color is too perfect to improve on. However, although white is my favorite color, I still prefer the common blue plumbago, not just because the color is too perfect, but because the white is sort of mundane. Also, the blue pea vine is best in blue. Although, because of the foliar color, it happens to look better in white than plumbago does. It is also pretty in pine or lavender.

I agree with you, especially about the Blue Pea, my neighbor has been trying to dye Easter eggs with the flowers – to no avail. Do you know the name of the darker blue Plumbago? I do not like the white one.

Isn’t it just a modern cultivar of Plumbago auriculata? I do not know the name of the cultivar. I just notice that the species is darker blue than it used to be. Also, the foliage seems to be greener.

I think so. I have never heard a name for it.

Thank you. It is hard to have an all blue garden! I love the idea, though.

I didn’t know about the Chinese Forget Me Not ; the flower is very similar to the forget-me-nots we have here. Do they tend to spread a lot?
About the Blue Porterweed, the leaf in the background looks very pretty. stinging like nettles?
Dark blue plumbago flowers are my favorite!
Have a good Easter weekend with your family and I hope the sky is blue where you are too!

Forget me nots will only grow as winter annuals in a pot here. I decided to try some to use as cut flowers – the Chinese variety is supposed to be good for cutting. Will try it tomorrow.

Today, I was just offered the Caucasian forget-me-not (Brunnera macrophylla) with similar flowers and very beautiful leaves!

Gorgeous shades of blue! I find myself drawn to blue flowers as I am always on the lookout for that perfect blue, and not a pinky blue or mauve. 😃 I hope they all thrive for you and some may appear in a vase soon. 😉
