This post is called Grace because of the funky purple bowl I used as a container.
The bowl belonged to my mother’s Aunt Grace, who was a charming old school southern lady. Grace was my grandmother’s sister and a schoolteacher long retired by the time I came along – she would sit with me and we would draw cats from a series of circles. I have always liked to draw and perhaps she got me started with those cats.
I have been plotting the flower arrangement for a while waiting for the Bridal Bouquet Frangipani (Plumeria pudica) to need pruning again. The bowl is good sized and it took 10 or so clusters of Frangipani to fill it, I added some buds and foliage of Heliconia (H. psittacorum) then some Asian Sword Fern for green texture.
The purple bowl of Plumeria is now gracing my foyer, I think of my Great Aunt when I pass it.
I feel I have been graced with new friends and some interesting new projects over the past couple of weeks, I wish the same to all who read this post. Happy Monday and thanks to our hostess, Cathy .

I love your very tropical arrangement. It must be so wonderful to have to prune your plumeria again! The one I once had put out a few flowers and then died, indicating it was not happy here.

I find myself collecting Plumerias unintentionally, some do better than others and the white Bridal Bouquet is the most prolific.

This is gorgeous Amy. I love the pure white plumeria and the helicona is perfect with it, picking up the colour of your Aunt Grace’ s bowl. I would love to have this on my table.

What an unusual and pretty bowl with a great history. I love such things. Your arrangement is pure tropical loveliness and I think it would be something I’d see in the lobby of a hotel in Hawaii. Beautiful!

That’s a beautiful bowl and I think it’s lovely that you’ve named it after your great aunt – the things passed on can be wonderful ways to trigger memories. You did a great job with the frangipangi – your Plumeria must be splendid in full bloom. My poor Plumeria has yet to produce a single flower this year – I’m wondering if I’d have better (or worse) luck with it if I planted it in the ground rather than leaving it in its current pot.

My experience with Plumeria is it works better in the ground. Better yet, just stick a cutting in the ground during rainy season. A friend gave me a 3 or 4 foot cutting, I stripped it and stuck it in the ground – it took and has put out an abundance of foliage and a few flowers.

Thank you, those particular Frangipani are not terribly fragrant but semi evergreen and columnar which makes up for the lack of fragrance. Hoping for an exciting winter!

This is such a beautiful arrangement. Using white flowers seems appropriate for “grace.” Your aunt would be so pleased with how you showcased her bowl and her life.

I had an aunt who lived in Florida and we kids thought it so funny when she talked about Frangipani.

I love the edges of the bowl, and how nice to have things like that that bringing back memories. Apart from a couple of vases that were wedding presents I think all the others I bought myself. Yours must be bigger than it first looked if you were filling it with all that material and it was hard to get a real judge of its size. The frangipani is beautiful and just so White, presumably why it gets called Bridal Bouquet. Thanks for sharing

Thank you, I collected a lot of the things my mother had – she was a diligent gardener and vase collector. The bowl is 14″! It took a lot of flowers to fill it.
