We enjoyed out first Mangoes this week. We had one Pickering and one Nam Doc Mai Mango. Both were divine and worth the wait. The Pickering had a coconut taste and the Nam Doc Mai was sweet as well, without the piney taste I sometimes associate with Mangoes. This is the flower of the Nam Doc Mai.
Here is the fruit ripening.
Finally, I had to pick one because the fruit was starting to split from the 20 inch rain deluge. Here it is ripe on the counter.
There are still a few Pickering Mangoes ripening on the tree. I picked one and it shriveled a bit on the counter but was still very tasty.
Also waiting on my first pineapple.
Here is where the Nam Doc Mai ended up. As a side of Mango Salsa with Parmesan Crusted Salmon and Green Bean Salad. The Pickering Mango met a similar fate. I admit to having a considerable sampling of the two Mangoes while my husband wasn’t looking.

Yes and hard for me to imagine figs can’t mature in your garden, though the flowers are beautiful.

I cannot imagine getting 20 inches of rain! Did you have much flooding in your area? We got 1/2″ on Thurs. and I was totally thrilled. Such small potatoes. 😉

Yes, delicious, though I agree with you about growing veg. There was some flooding and still swampy areas are full. Hoping for dragonflies.

That’s pretty awesome! I can not grow them here. I have seen them in Southern California, but they are uncommon. My colleague tells me that the trees occupy significant space to produce just a few fruit. Consequently, they are not very popular. They are probably more popular in San Diego County.

The Pickering is a condo mango..dwarf bears fruit early and can be grown in a pot.

But it still likes a warm climate. They can be grown in greenhouses here, but are not as good.

jeez, 20″ of rain. i doubt we have had that all year here. feels like it anyway. we had some good rain towards the end of last week but no more than an inch, if that. love mango, how cool to be able to grow your own.

Outrageous amount of rain, even for here. It drained right off my sand and I have the irrigation on again..
