Six on Saturday – Gifts from the Garden

It’s  time for Six on Saturday. Six pictures of anything interesting from your garden.

Just in time for Christmas the garden is gifting me with some wonderful things. Above, finally a nearly ripe Papaya.

Below, green beans and radishes:

In honor of the holidays, a few red flowers are blooming. The weather is dreadful today,  howling wind and rain, so pictures were taken inside.

This is Nodding Hibiscus (Hibiscus malvaviscus)

Red Shrimp Plant (Justicia brandegeana)

The garden provided plenty of Blanchetiana flowers (and foliage) to make this wreath.

And a greyhound to watch over the front porch:

I love your six. A great wreath and how fabulous to have Christmas papayas.

I should have expected oddities here.
You know, as much as I enjoy growing fruit, I am none too keen on papayas. People grow them in the greenhouses at work, and really like the few fruits they get. I just do not like the flavor. Also, I don’t want something that wants the extra warmth of a greenhouse. I would grow them for others though. Incidentally, I just got cuttings of dragon fruit, which I will grow (because I got them), but they are even less exciting than papayas.
Your shrimp plant always seems to be so exemplary. I do not really know what they are supposed to look like. The only shrimp plant here never looks good. I really don’t know why they are still sometimes planted, since they never look good. I don’t remember the species.
